Dear Parents and Families,

Thank you for your support, commitment, and all that the Homer Davis school community does to make our school outstanding. The 2011-2012 school year has been a great success! May is our busiest month of the year. Please review the school event calendar for all of the upcoming events and performances. Believe! Achieve! Succeed!

With so much hard work and effort, our summer goal is not to lose the progress made throughout the school year. Therefore, keep practicing your reading strategies and math facts during the summer months. Participating in our no fee/grant funded Skills for Success summer school program is a great way to keep the mind active. There are also several summer programs offered through Project S.T.A.R. Classes include reading, math, science, writing, technology, art, music, sports, cooking, and much more. Summer Skills for Success and Project S.T.A.R. registration booklets are available in the Homer Davis front office, and we also sent them home recently. Relax, Recharge, and Read is your summer homework assignment!

As part of our commitment in being an effective school, we established goals to improve the Homer Davis learning environment. One of our school goals was to focus on our math curriculum by demonstrating mastery of the Arizona Math Standards. The goal was to score 70% or higher on the Harcourt Math Assessment for students in grades K-1st and "meet/exceed" on the third administration of the math District Assessment Plan (DAP) in grades 2nd-6th. We continue to make academic progress and are proud that 71% of our students met our math goal for the 2011 – 2012 school year.

Another goal our school established was based on the 2011 - 2012 Quality Assurance Survey. This survey provides feedback as to how our school is meeting the expectations of Homer Davis families. We have outlined the results below for your review:

Question #1: I feel the school is providing a sound academic program.
Results: 96% of our parents responded with a 4 or 5 score.

Question #2: I feel comfortable that my child is safe at school.
Results: 91% of our parents responded with a 4 and 5 score.

Question #3: Homer Davis provides a positive and caring environment.
Results: 93% of our parents responded with a 4 and 5 score.

Question #4: I feel confident that my concerns have or will be addressed.
Results: 90% of our parents responded with a 4 and 5 score.

Question # 5: I am aware of how I can demonstrate support for our school.
Results: 94% of our parents responded with a 4 and 5 score.

The survey feedback guides our annual goal setting and provides ideas to improve school effectiveness. Please continue to stay involved with your child's education as we know how critical it is to work together as a team to promote continuous improvement. I wish our 6th grade students the best of luck at the junior high next year and look forward to seeing everyone else back at school on Thursday, August 9, 2012. It has been an honor and privilege to work with you this year! Have a great summer and thank you for making Homer Davis an A+ school!
