Dear Families and Community,
Homer Davis Elementary School continues to excel as we rise toward high expectations. This past month successfully promoted the importance of literacy during February's Love of Reading Festivities. School visitors commented on the impressive quality of student projects, appreciated staff members dedicated work, and recognized school wide efforts to challenge students with high learning expectations. Each Homer Davis staff member works diligently to offer unique opportunities for students. Our committed effort is recognized and appreciated!
This year Homer Davis will administer two state tests during the assessment window of April 7 - April 11. Third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will take AIMS. Second grade students will be taking a test called the Stanford 10. These tests are extremely important! The results from these tests will provide information as to how your children are performing at their grade level of instruction, how we compare to students throughout the state, and how our school is performing to meet the Arizona College and Career Standards.
The results of these assessments will also determine the performance level of our school. Our goal this year is to improve on the amount of points we will earn on the achievement profile scoring system. Points are earned based on the percentage of students who pass AIMS combined with the growth in percentile rank of our students. Most importantly, our teaching staff continues to devote time and effort in preparing students to achieve successful results on these assessments. This readiness level is demonstrated by providing superior daily instruction which is aligned to our state curriculum standards.
Homer Davis is committed to meeting the needs of all students. Over the past few months, our staff has worked together to improve and develop instructional materials that will support five specific academic, parent involvement, and technology goals. Homer Davis staff has also participated with in-service trainings to support our target goals for improvement in the area of reading and math concepts. These goals were determined based upon our evaluation, review of assessment scores, and various instructional practices.
Homer Davis has worked very hard to prepare your children to be successful. This is the week when the students will put forth their best effort and let their academic success shine! Presented for your review are a few strategies that parents may use to support the testing process:
