Dear Families and Community,
Homer Davis loves the month of February! During this time period students and staff will increase their focus on reading. February is designated as love of reading month. Our school goal is to show how much fun reading is and to encourage students/families to make reading part of their daily lives. This year’s theme revolves around sharks, “Sink your teeth into a good book!”
Love of reading festivities will showcase guest readers and organize special school performances (story assemblies and stories that soar!). Our reading night is on Wednesday, February 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for K-3rd grade students and 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for 4-6 grade students. These will take place in your child’s classroom in conjunction with our book fair in the library from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We need your attendance at these worthwhile events so you can get important information on how to help your child meet grade level expectations in reading.
Attitude is everything! As a parent the message you send to your children about reading will set the tone to their reading enjoyment. A positive attitude that encourages daily reading at home will help students become better readers. Provided are a few family tips you can use to improve your child’s reading skills while developing a positive attitude:
Enjoy a great book, and we’ll see you at our open house/reading night on Wednesday, February 4 (in your child’s classroom). If you have more than one child, please manage your time accordingly to ensure that you visit every teacher.
