A Message from Our Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you for participating in our fall parent/teacher conferences. Our school continues to have an outstanding participation rate with this important school and family team connection. We continue to encourage your participation in supporting your child with homework completion and listening to them read for 20 minutes each night. Your commitment to be involved with your child's education and continued school support is appreciated.

Reading - A major focus in our primary grades is to get our students to learn their letters, letter sounds, and new words on a daily basis. See your child's teacher if you missed their feedback related to your child's progress during fall conferences. As students move into the intermediate grades, they may read to find out how to use a new game, read a guidebook to gather information about national parks, or read a novel (chapter book) to experience the joy of great literature. The ultimate goal is to have all of our students reading on or above grade level as soon as possible. Please continue to read with your child 20 minutes each night on a consistent basis to encourage fluency and comprehension.

Math - One of our school improvement goals this school year is for each student to improve their success on the Harcourt Math post assessment (grades K-1) and the new spring state assessment (grades 2-6). Please continue to expect your child to memorize their math facts through fun activities or challenges at home. Most students who can recall their facts quickly and accurately are very successful as they approach more difficult standards in future lessons.

Throughout the course of the year, our school calendar becomes very busy. Here are a few school events taking place during the month of November:

  • Second quarter mid-term reports go home on or before Friday, November 14.
  • District Choral Festival is on Monday, November 3 at the FW High School West Gym.
  • Our monthly Dragon of Character Assembly will be on Friday, November 21 at 1:15 p.m. Choir/music will be presenting the life skill of caring and friendship.
  • Homer Davis Family Movie Night will be on Friday, December 12 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. All canned food donations and money will go directly to our district family resource center and PTO.
  • Skills for Success: Homer Davis is still accepting participants. This program is after-school, free, supports academics, art, and good health. Please call Will Roberts at (520) 696-8295 for more information.

Flowing Wells School District has a unique web page. The district site will link to our school web page. Our web page looks great and can be viewed by logging on to Flowing Wells School District. The Homer Davis web page has our school newsletter, updates, staff picture, e-mail accounts, school phone numbers, and a calendar of events.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to e-mail or give me a call at 696-8251. Teamwork is the key to our success! I look forward to working with you as a team to provide the best possible education for our students.

Sincerely,

Chad Miller
